Boomerang Tracking Inc. (TSE:BMG) successfully recovered a carjacked 2001 Lexus RX 300 in Scarborough, Ontario in less than one hour.
Four men forced the unsuspecting driver from his vehicle at gunpoint at approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, March 8. The victim immediately contacted local authorities, notifying them that his car was equipped with a Boomerang Tracking System. A Boomerang tracking team was immediately dispatched leading to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of two individuals.
“Even with the increasing presence of sophisticated built-in security systems in vehicles, the theft rate in Canada at one car stolen every three minutes has essentially remained unaffected. With over 160,000 vehicles stolen every year in Canada and as vehicles become more theft-resistant, thieves are resorting to violent means to obtain them including carjackings and home invasions,” commented Linda Farha, Boomerang’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
“According to a recent communiqué released by the Toronto law enforcement authorities, offenders are obtaining the car keys by these means thus defeating anti-theft devices such as car alarms and car ignition disabling locks. This is where an after-market system like Boomerang provides a solution to this problem. Each unit is hidden in a different, undisclosed place in the vehicle and its presence is unknown as there are no markings on the vehicle indicating that the device has been installed,” continued Ms. Farha. “Drivers no longer have to compromise their security as they can rest assured that with Boomerang, their stolen vehicle will be safely recovered, typically undamaged within an hour”.
To date, the Boomerang and Boomerang2TM Tracking Systems have led to the recovery of more than 1,480 vehicles valued at over $74 million.
