Boomerang Tracking Inc.- Canada’s leading vehicle tracking and recovery company and ranked number one in the Deloitte & Touche 2002 Canadian Technology Fast 50 Awards Program, called upon Toronto residents to learn more about protecting themselves and their investments in response to media reports of escalating auto theft, carjacking and kidnappings in Toronto.
“Car theft, including carjacking and break-ins, has reached epidemic proportions. According to the increasing number of reports, car thieves are increasingly breaking into homes for luxury car keys, bypassing anti-theft devices. This is a prime example of this growing problem and represents a call to action for concerned residents,” says Linda Farha, Vice President Marketing and Communications, Boomerang Tracking. “Any consumer who has an expensive and/or highly sought after car is a target. Driveways, garages and even homes are no longer safe havens for expensive vehicles as thieves are resorting to break-ins and carjacking in order to obtain the keys of these vehicles. Law enforcement is helping to educate residents, but the need for mass awareness is critical. That’s where Boomerang Tracking can play a role.”
Today, Boomerang Tracking announced a public awareness campaign to help Torontonians learn more about protecting their vehicle. Starting this week, Boomerang Tracking will feature tips on protecting your investment on their website (www.boomerangtracking.com) and will begin to drop information flyers in high-risk neighborhoods. Furthermore, Toronto retailers (also found on the website) who offer Boomerang Tracking devices will provide information to any concerned citizen about the Boomerang Tracking System.
“We need to get the message out – there are ways to protect your investment. Common sense combined with practical vehicle-recovery solutions will reduce the damage to your vehicle and provide you with peace of mind. Even if the keys are stolen, Boomerang Tracking can still recover a stolen vehicle, typically within an hour,” said Farha. “Our proprietary tracking technology employs the wireless networks of major regional carriers and is more effective than GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite-based solutions. Unlike GPS systems, the Boomerang Tracking System can locate stolen vehicles underground and in shipping containers. In addition, car alarms are not a deterrent as many systems can be disabled and cannot help in the recovery of the vehicle.”
Boomerang Tracking was recently successful and instrumental in locating: § A Mercedes E320 stolen twice out of the driveway of an upscale Toronto neighborhood. The first time, the home was robbed, the owner was kidnapped and the keys taken. Once the vehicle had been returned to the owner, he immediately had a Boomerang tracking device installed. The second time, when the thieves broke into his garage and stole the vehicle with a cloned key, the owner notified Boomerang Tracking and the car was located within an hour.
§ The owner of a Lexus RX 300 carjacked in Scarborough immediately contacted police and notified them that his car was equipped with a Boomerang Tracking System. In less than 30 minutes, the car was located and the thieves arrested.
“The Boomerang tracking devices have led to the recovery of over 1850 vehicles, valued at almost $100 million to date. While these devices cannot prevent a carjacking, they provide owners of these devices with peace of mind that they can hand over their vehicle’s keys without jeopardizing their personal safety. Additional personal safety precautions such as locking your vehicle doors and driving with awareness of the vehicles and people around you, particularly when stopped at an intersection should also be adopted,” said Farha. “ Once a victim has reached safety, notifying police and Boomerang Tracking may help locate the car and your personal belongings and may even assist in the apprehension of the criminals.”
Boomerang Tracking Inc. is proud to announce that it has ranked number one in the Deloitte & Touche 2002 Canadian Technology Fast 50 Awards Program. This annual program ranks the 50 fastest growing high technology companies in Canada, based on the highest rates of revenue growth over the last five years (1997-2001). With an impressive growth of 9,064% over this period, Boomerang Tracking became the first Quebec-based company to achieve this prestigious ranking.
