A Forest Hill resident awoke yesterday morning to discover that his two new high-end automobiles had been stolen overnight from his driveway. Fortunately, one of the stolen vehicles had been recently equipped with a Boomerang tracking device, Canada’s premiere vehicle theft recovery device.

The owner immediately contacted the Boomerang tracking team who were able to track the cars to the Montreal area. This track, spanning across two provinces, not only recovered the vehicle equipped with a Boomerang device, but netted a total of four vehicles stolen from the Toronto area. The operation led to the arrest of six individuals and a total value of approximately $230,000 in recoveries. The Boomerang Tracking System utilizes the wireless technology of existing networks of major regional telecommunications carriers. Boomerang Tracking recently launched a public awareness campaign in the Forest Hill neighborhood to help residents better understand car theft prevention techniques.

In Canada over 170,000 cars will be stolen this year, one every 3 minutes. The wireless network used by Boomerang Tracking is superior to GPS technology, which is rendered ineffective when a car is underground, in a container or loses a direct sight line with a satellite. Boomerang Tracking’s technology can recover vehicles and their contents in only an hour, on average, thereby reducing damage to the vehicle.
