Bad luck and trouble followed this thief everywhere he went. The $35,000 Bigfoot camper he stole Monday was not as inconspicuous as its namesake – it was equipped with a
"Boomerang Stolen Vehicle Recovery" system. The camper was electronically tracked within an hour to an address in Hope, and police found not only the camper, but an all-
terrain vehicle stolen in Alberta. Sgt. Enzo Nadalin, of the Auto Theft Task Force, said the drama began in the 5600 block of Landmark Way in Surrey. Nalalin said this was the first time that the cellular-based Boomerang tracking technology had been used to recover stolen property. Once the location of the stolen camper was pinpointed - a one acre property in the 20000 block of Beacon Road -a search warrant was obtained and police paid a visit No one was home, but police expect evidence was sufficient to support a charge against a single male. The Boomerang system has been in operation in Ontario and Quebec with great success in recovering stolen vehicles, Nadalin said. The system costs about $599, with a monthly monitoring of $10.
