Camp
Pendleton Mud Run, June 15, 2003
Reported
by: Robert Schweitzer, Senior Technical Support
The
"World Famous Camp Pendleton Mud Run" went very
well. Not only did we do "Boomerang Justice" out
there, but our team members earned a silver medal, with a
final time of 1:30:35. The mud run was a 10 kilometres (6.2
miles) cross country obstacle course ran by individuals or
teams, and competing in running clothes or the more difficult
military attire complete with combat boots and camouflage
trousers.
Team
Boomerang entered as a corporate boots and utilities team.
7000 runners participated over two days, including a total
of 42 teams during the two-day event. On June 15th, Team Boomerang
was one of 27 teams competing that day, and was awarded a
silver medal for a finishing time of 1:30:35.
The
course included waist-deep mud pits, river crossings, two
different wall obstacles, a hay bale course, a lake crossing
and countless hills. The lake crossing was where we almost
lost one of the girls. She was too proud and somewhat short.
The water was over her head at times and her boots were weighing
her down. As she began to drift away I was able to convince
her to take my arm for assistance. She was a real trooper
and will live to race again!
The
race was great fun, complete with stinky sludge canals, slippery
mud sloped hills (up and down), and even a rapid-current river
crossing with chest deep water.
We
have shown that mud hills and physical obstacles cannot stop
Team Boomerang!
